Poppy Room
Our Poppy Room is set up to care for babies from birth to approximately 18 months.
There is carpet space to support the children’s physical development at every stage, from crawling to learning to walk. We have different resources in the room such as a walker, jumparoo, slide, toddle boxes and a swing for the children to enjoy, while supporting their physical and emotional development.
We have our snack / lunch area where the children can sit at the table together and have a sociable eating experience. Our staff can sometimes be heard singing to the children whilst they have their food.
Our Poppy room staff work closely with the babies and their families to achieve all the needs of every child following their individual care plans to support their usual feeding and sleeping routines.
The staff caring for our youngest children in the Poppy Room are selected for their experience, and each & every staff member in this room is selected for their warm and nurturing character. They offer expert and professional care, responding quickly and accurately to meet the needs of each young child. We understand how difficult it can be to entrust your child into the care of our staff, but we are here with you every step of the way. At drop off each morning, parents / carers will have the opportunity to update our staff on the previous nights sleep and if there are any specific needs or requirements for the child that day. Equally, at handover at the end of each day, our staff will update you on your childs activities and routine of that day, covering everything from diet, activities, and the all important nap time!
Our Poppy Room Garden for our very young children is a separate outdoor area used by only them, that has a variety of surfaces and resources suitable for the very young child. We have sunshades in place for when the Scottish sun comes out, and lots of bright and fun books and toys to keep our youngest children stimulated whilst listening to the older children playing in the background.
Sunshine Room
Our Sunshine Room is set up for children aged approximately 18 months to 2 years. Our beautiful areas are full of natural resources to create a welcoming and nurturing environment and age appropriate resources to support and follow the childrens interests and needs.
We have recently upgraded the flooring from carpet to wooden floor and removed our dividers to allow for more open plan free flow play and learning for our Sunshine room children. Large south facing windows flood this room with sunshine all day, hence the name. ☀️
A heuristic area is filled with an array of natural resources creating lots of interest for the children. We have areas including our reading garden, where we encourage the children to sit and listen to a variety of stories, including our favourite ‘book of the week’. Our home inspired table set up and kitchen toys allow the children to investigate the room and develop their skills.
A wooden climbing frame and slide encourages children to gain confidence in their movement whilst having fun!
Our Sunshine Garden is situated at the front of the nursery, and this areas provides children with opportunities to develop their physical abilities. We mark out hopscotch using chalk, ride bikes, practice literacy and numeracy, and even provide opportunities for planting and growing in the many tubs and containers.
Ladybird Room
The Ladybird Room is for our children aged approximately 2-3 years old.
In this room we encourage independence and self help skills throughout the day. We have a self serve snack time where the children plate their own snack and pour their own milk / water.
Another key focus in this room is ‘learning through play’ as we believe this helps brain development, skill acquisition, social and emotional growth, creativity and imagination, motivation and engagement.
There is free flow access to messy areas such as water, sand, paint and glue so the children can make their own choices through play. We also have a sensory area where they can spend quiet time, relaxing reading a book, exploring the sensory toys or watching the lava lamp.
Our home corner is designed to recreate familiar settings from home and provide endless entertainment for the children as they play. We also have our sand and water tables, tuff trays, our dress up area, chill out camping den, arts and craft tables, as well as our building zone. Lots to keep imaginations growing and hands busy.

This room spends lots of time outdoors in all weathers. There are mainly natural resources in this area and children are encouraged to use their imagination. We also offer a large mud kitchen and climbing ropes and frame, with lots of areas to support the children with their gross motor skills and confidence exploring the outdoors. Our neighbouring horses can be seen (and heard!) over the back wall.

The room has a large space for areas to follow the children’s learning and interests while including the Curriculum for excellence in each area. There is lots of visual learning through displays at the children’s level to prompt learning and include numeracy, literacy and health and wellbeing in all areas.
